Adventureland vs. Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story

Another example of the notion that an original take on a cliche storyline (a coming of age story) is generally going to rank higher for me than most well made parodies (Exception, see Airplane - mostly because of how early it was made relative to the explosion of parody films after the mid-90's). I really tried to like Walk Hard, but something just fell flat for me and other than Tim Meadows, I didn't find myself enjoying the movie. When I left the theater after seeing Adventureland, I felt like feelings about my own youth had been rekindled and that the film spoke to me and my experiences, which is why it places much much higher for me.

Yeah, Adventureland wins for me too. I think Walk Hard tries a bit to hard to be outrageous. There are some funny parts, but all in all, it's Adventureland for me.
