Cat on a Hot Tin Roof vs. The Long, Hot Summer

The young, so-hot-he-can't-be-real Paul Newman in bastardized Tenessee Williams and unrecognizable Faulkner. You can literally feel the steam rising off the screen in The Long, Hot Summer, but Elizabeth Taylor > Joanne Woodward and Burl Ives > Orson Welles, so Cat wins this matchup.

Changing my vote to The Long, Hot Summer. Orson Welles's mumbling performance is still laughable, but after a rewatch I feel like Woodward makes a more believable Southern belle than Elizabeth Taylor, and with Lee Remick and Angela Lansbury, the cast is incredibly strong on the distaff side. Also, the film would ultimately be more important in shaping Newman's screen image. And I'm simply too big of a fan of the original Tennessee Williams play to enjoy the mangled film version of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. A pity because Newman was pretty much an ideal Brick.
