Oliver Twist vs. Great Expectations

The high points of Great Expectations (e.g. the early scenes with Finlay Currie, Martita Hunt, Jean Simmons and Tony Wager) are higher than those of Oliver Twist, methinks, but then its low points (John Mills and Valerie Hobson are awful as the adult Pip and Estella) are lower. Of course, Oliver Twist does contain Alec Guiness's unfortunate antisemitic portrayal of Fagin, in keeping with the original novel--something later adaptations have been careful to avoid. Still, I think it's the stronger movie, overall.
