The Fast and the Furious vs. Fast Five

Fast Five is pretty good, but The Fast and the Furious is the ultimate guilty pleasure movie.

The first is good and classic and all, but once Fast Five hit, the series really fell into place. You can't beat the sheer fun of Fast Five.

I love them both. The best two in the series. The original wins

Fast 1.

Arguably the two best movies in the franchise. The Fast and the Furious is one of the ultimate guilty pleasure movies, Point Break with cars. It sets up the high octane speed visuals, the neon-lit street nights and yellow sunned desert days, and establishes the core cast of characters pretty firmly. Brian, Dom, Letty, and Mia are all well-rounded complete characters that don't feel acted. There is a familial core to the fast-paced heist movie that lays a great foundation. Fast Five is one of the most revitalizing sequels in a franchise to exist. 2 Fast is all about cars and criminals losing the spirit that managed to exist in the first movie; Tokyo Drift tries to reboot it but it doesn't work (and creates a weird but wonderful timeline); and I don't remember much about Fast and Furious despite having watched it thrice. Fast Five dips back into the camaraderie of the previous movie and the first, adding in old characters Roman (2), Tej (2), and Han (3) and establishing new characters with Hobbs & Elena to make an huge group heist movie akin to The Italian Job and Ocean's Eleven. It turns the street racing franchise into a globetrotting thriller of almost James Bond-levels of intrigue and inventiveness. Fast Five pulls it off so seamlessly, weaving in threads and developing more story and character relations that really cement the franchise as box office magic.

Love Fast Five, but still gotta go with the original....
