It's Complicated vs. Doubt

Without a doubt, I'm going with Doubt. This is the kind of movie Meryl Streep should be making. It is a story that is brilliantly written and directed and she is provided with a challenging three-dimensional character to sink her teeth into. It's Complicated is not a bad movie by any stretch of the imagination, but it is the third in a string of barely above-average films (the first being Mamma Mia! and the second being Julie & Julia) that Streep has chosen instead of something great. I'm not saying she should only be making dark dramas. In fact, she was brilliant in Altman's A Prairie Home Companion, which was poignant and genuine without being too heavy. I just think that the "greatest living actress" should be handed the best material. Now excuse me while I get off my soapbox.
