the two movies that encapsulate the mediocrity that can be spawned from a Burton/Depp collaboration. i think the remake of the gene wilder classic is the weaker of the two.

Yeah, Alice at least had some interesting elements. All Charlie had going for it was Freddie Highmore.
Ehhhh hate both ill go with Alice, the only Burton film i like is Scissorhands.

I disagree with all of you to some degree. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is the most complete entertainment of the two. Against Alice in Wonderland, it has the stronger lead, a more unique Depp performance, a fantasy world that is consistently entertaining, and a tremendously more satisfying ending. The first two thirds of Alice are truly spellbinding, but turning Alice into a warrior and Wonderland into a battleground is one of the biggest cop outs of Burton's career. Both films are fun, but only one I could highly recommend.

Alice in Wonderland wasn't awful but it was certainly disappointing. Johnny Depp played it shockingly safe, and the whole film lacked any sort of strangeness aside from one or two off color lines. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, on the other hand, was everything Alice in Wonderland should've been. It was weird and had Johnny Depp at his utter bizarrest. It was good fun, and I was laughing the whole way through. It was miles better than the overrated Gene Wilder flick for sure.
