Tess vs. Lawrence of Arabia

Two films of epic length, with the main character as the title, that I quite enjoy. Lawrence of Arabia has no women in it, while Tess is all about the misadventures of a young girl descended from a once prosperous aristocratic family. Neither film has a happy ending. I guess Tess is slightly more my style, since I'm into the costume romance types of flicks. Particularly with an attractive female lead. But there isn't a large margin of victory.
