WATCH: Newest Trailer for ‘Star Trek Into Darkness’
"Darkness is coming."
A final, epic trailer for Star Trek Into Darkness hit the Internet today, and it provides the truest sense of what director J.J. Abrams is bringing us in his much-anticipated sequel.
After a meteoric rise to captain of the USS Enterprise in the first movie, it looks like James T. Kirk (Chris Pine) will face the first real test of his mettle as a leader. This test comes in the form of the enigmatic terrorist John Harrison (Benedict Cumberbatch). Harrison's true identity remains shrouded in mystery until the film's release, but his intentions are clear: to bring Kirk to his lowest point, and break him. (Wait a minute. Where have we seen this before? Oh, right. Here.) Will Kirk manage to rise to the challenge, even with the support of his mentor, Admiral Pike (Bruce Greenwood)? Will his crew survive? (The Enterprise itself is sure in for a bumpy ride.)

Abrams' previous hit, Star Trek, is the second-highest ranked film on Flickchart for 2009. Four years later, his forthcoming sequel was named Most Anticipated Film of 2013 at our 2nd Annual Flickcharter's Choice Awards.
Star Trek Into Darkness opens May 17.
