Universal Studios Finds a New Director for “The Huntsman”
Last week, Frank Darabont abandoned his directing gig on The Huntsman, stating the oft-cited “creative differences” as the reason for his departure. Now, Universal has settled on a new director for their sequel to Snow White and the Huntsman, which grossed $400 million at the worldwide box office in 2012.
The duty will fall to Cedric Nicolas-Troyan, who makes his feature directorial debut with the sequel. While his name does not carry the weight of Darabont’s, Nicolas-Troyan is not without experience: He has an extensive background in visual effects, and was second unit director on Snow White and the Huntsman and last year’s Maleficent. His work as visual effects supervisor on Snow White and the Huntsman garnered him an Academy Award nomination.
The Huntsman is currently set to hit theaters on April 22, 2016.
