Created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, Superman debuted in Action Comics #1 in the summer of 1938. An instant sensation, Superman was quickly brought to radio in 1940 and hit the screen in 1941. With Man of Steel on the horizon, every movie and geek culture website on the Internet has reflected on his past movie adventures. What separates Flickchart from all the others is that our ranked lists aren’t arbitrarily pieced together by a single writer, or even a select editorial team. Christopher Nolan has ruined everything.
The success of The Dark Knight - now bested by its own sequel, The Dark Knight Rises - has caused a shift in big-budget movies, particularly in the comic book superhero genre. Its sense of grittiness has so reverberated through Hollywood that more and more films seem to be adapting a “darker is better” attitude.

Believe it or not, this summer has already brought us three movies based on comics or graphic novels. Some have done quite well for their franchises (Thor, X-Men: First Class) while others haven’t been so lucky (Priest). This weekend brings about the fourth of these films, Green Lantern, which is DC Comics first summer film since last year’s train wreck Jonah Hex. With new films in the Superman and Batman franchises on the way, Green Lantern is DC’s best bet for a hit until those other superhero monstrosities are released. But before you check out the newest superhero film of this summer, check out some of these under ranked films from the stars of Green Lantern.

As Marvel Studios begins their big push to the 2012 release of The Avengers, their films are increasingly taking on more of a soap-opera-like continuity between them. This serialization might be a little aggravating, but so far, it’s not keeping the films from being enjoyable in their own right (at least for the most part).
Still, comic book superhero films in general (and Marvel films in particular) are only becoming more prevalent nowadays. This year, we’ll see the X-Men prequel, X-Men: First Class. And, only five years after the hit-and-miss (mostly miss) Spider-Man 3, the webslinger will be getting his very own shiny reboot in 2012.
But in The Avengers is Marvel’s juggernaut, and before it brings together Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk, it has to introduce more members of its roster in their very own films. It can be a little exhausting trying to keep up with these Avengers, so if we really only want to check out one Marvel movie this summer, which should it be? With that question in mind, Flickchart‘s Reel Rumbles take on a slightly different form as we present: Pre-Rumbles: Thor vs. Captain America: The First Avenger.
