‘Saw’ Director James Wan in Talks to Direct ‘Fast & Furious 7’
Fast & Furious 6 hasn’t even hit theaters yet (that happens May 24), but things are already churning on the seventh installment of Universal’s big-hit franchise. Justin Lin (who has helmed the last four F&F films) has opted not to return for #7, so the hunt has been on for a new director.
Apparently, Universal has found their man in low-budget horror sensation James Wan. Currently in negotiations with the studio, Wan is the director of such horror hits as Saw and Insidious. Fast & Furious would be Wan’s first foray into both big action and big budgets; it may be interesting to see what he comes up with.
Universal reportedly considered such directors as Baltasar Kormákur (Contraband, the upcoming 2 Guns), Jeff Wadlow (Kick-Ass 2) and Harald Zwart (The Karate Kid) before turning to Wan.
Wan has two films coming up this year, The Conjuring (July 19) and Insidious: Chapter 2 (September 20).
Vin Diesel and Paul Walker are expected to return for Fast & Furious 7, but, interestingly, Dwayne Johnson – whose presence really upped the success factor for Fast Five – is apparently not a sure thing.
