Posters of Prominence: “Skyfall” Teaser Poster
The official Skyfall teaser poster was just released:
There’s not much in the way of symbolism to be found here, but its simplicity is certainly consistent with what many fans expect from a 007 outing by Sam Mendes. It’s surprising to realize that the iconic gun barrel has rarely been featured as part of a James Bond poster. This is easily the most dominant it has appeared in any poster except The Living Daylights campaign 25 years ago.
Also, the first trailer for Skyfall will debut on 007.com on Monday, May 21st, at 8.30AM Eastern. Are you excited to see the latest Bond?
My response to the Bond resurgence has been pretty consistent so far: Kind of “eh” toward the marketing and then really enjoying the heck out of the films themselves. I think some of that could just be that Bond was never really a part of my household or that modern Bond is joined by the likes of Borne or Hunt or what have you.
That said, I love the simplicity of this poster. Minimalist design almost always grabs me and gets me interested.
You gotta go all the way back to the teaser poster for The World Is Not Enough in 1999 (the silhouette of a woman against flames) to find the last Bond poster I really liked. It’s especially disappointing because the golden age of Bond movie posters includes some of the best stuff ever made. It’s sad to see one area where Bond has sacrificed his style.
Still, I concur with you entirely about this poster. There’s something nice about its simplicity.
