New Movies in Theaters: February 11, 2011
Just Go With It – PG-13 – watch the trailer ►
Adam Sandler’s latest PG-13 Comedy. It’s a loose remake of the Walter Matthau, Ingrid Bergman and Goldie Hawn classic Cactus Flower. Did you know Nicole Kidman is in this movie? Me neither. The mere mention of her name in a trailer nowadays must kill the opening box office or something. Co-starring Jennifer Aniston, Brooklyn Decker, Minka Kelly, Dave Matthews and Nick Swardson.
The Eagle – PG-13 – watch the trailer ►
A poorly received Adventure movie starring Channing Tatum, Jamie Bell, Mark Strong and Donald Sutherland.
Gnomeo & Juliet – G – watch the trailer ►
The reviews for this animated movie have been mediocre so far. It does feature a solid vocal cast though: James McAvoy, Emily Blunt, Michael Caine, Jason Statham and Patrick Stewart.
Justin Bieber: Never Say Never – G – watch the trailer ►
New Movies in Limited Theatrical Release
Cedar Rapids – R – watch the trailer ►
Ed Helms is going to have to play a different character eventually but this movie still looks like a lot of fun. After 40 or so reviews, it has a 90% on RottenTomatoes. Co-starring John C. Reilly, Rob Corddry, Anne Heche and Isiah Whitlock Jr.
Carancho – NR – watch the trailer ►
Argentinian movie about an Ambulance-chaser. It’s apparently about to be remade by director Scott Cooper (Crazy Heart).
The first time I saw a trailer for Just Go with It, I thought it had to have been based on an unused script from Seinfeld. Seriously, replace Adam Sandler with Jason Alexander in your mind. Only, I would have thought the premise was flimsy for a 22 minute episode. I can only imagine how excruciating it is as a full length film.
I also had no idea Nicole Kidman was in it. Maybe it was in her contract that she wouldn’t be in the promotional materials for this at the same time she was up for awards for Rabbit Hole. (Though I am aware of the disparity between her paychecks and the box office success of her films for the last decade.)
Oh, and I also had no idea Patrick Stewart did one of the voices in Gnomeo and Juliet! That’s not enough to get me out to the theater to see it, but I’ll try to remember to Netflix it later.
