From Funny to Scary to Bizarre: 13 Streaming Horror Shorts for Halloween
It’s Halloween night, and we’re sure you’ve got a list of horror films and a bowl of candy ready to binge. But wait! How many of your movie picks are shorts? Shorts are the oldest form of cinema, so don’t overlook these thirteen dark, perverse, horrifying films ready for your streaming pleasure:
Most people fear using public restrooms due to germs or lack of privacy. This Dutch short is especially for those who suffer from acartohygieiophobia. Not only does the couple run out of toilet tissue at a strange rest stop, but the situation quickly escalates to bloody mayhem.
Night of the Slasher
A Meta Horror slasher that manages to cover a decent number of the familiar tropes humorously during its run time. There’s a good knife battle as well.
Intense, scary and funny. This short offers an invigorating haunted basement experience.
Pure anarchic zombie carnage that never lets up.
This would work as a good scare film for teenagers who intend to steal a car and drive off to a secluded lake. More disturbing and uncomfortable than outright frightening, though entirely plausible.
Eli Roth is one of the executive producers behind this short that wastes no time getting down to business with the horror genre’s favorite implement of death. A homicidal maniac casually shows up at a carnival and proceeds to slaughter unsuspecting visitors at the haunted house attraction. Gory and brutal, each killing lovingly shows the chainsaw at work.
This is the first of the dysfunctional family shorts on the list. It only gets more twisted from here. Enjoy the cute robot.
This reminded me of Eraserhead, except for the baby being much larger and mean-spirited.
Unicorn Blood (Sangre de unicornio)
This is a bleak and unpleasant bit of animation about a couple of Teddy Bears hunting unicorn. According to this Cartoon Brew article, the director, Alberto Vázquez, will be adapting the short into a feature entitled Unicorn Wars. You may not want to show this to young children.
Dog of Man
I’ve watched a number of animator David Firth‘s shorts, all of which were heavy with dark and twisted humor. This particular short seems to get the most mentions as to being his most disturbing work.
Unedited Footage of a Bear
I don’t watch a lot of television, so this Adult Swim short is new to me. While not as insane as Too Many Cooks, it is more troubling.
Die! Sitter! Die! Rupert
It’s hard to classify this demented short. It could be seen as a comedy, yet it’s quite gross and nasty. The antagonist has to be one of the most vile I’ve come across. Imagine House of the Devil with an emotionally challenged psycho instead of Satan worshipers.
This came out back in 1997. I didn’t get around to seeing it until recently, and I had no idea what I was getting into. Cutting Moments is easily the most cringe-inducing ordeal I’ve seen in quite a while. Even if you’re a fan of gore, the scenes of mutilation that await you are hard to shake off.
