HILARIOUS once again! Too bad it’s only one podcast every week.
I almost had to stop and come comment in the middle of the podcast when you were talking about Rear Window. I admit I’m biased (Bonnie & Clyde only recently ousted Rear Window from my #1 movie of all time slot), but wow. Hitchcock didn’t make Rear Window a one-room movie because he didn’t have the budget to use other locations. A) It’s experimental, like Rope’s ten-minute takes from one camera setup, B) It’s integral to the themes and plot of the film, which are among the deepest and most thoughtful of any film ever made. I’ve seen it probably ten times and every time I do I find more depth.
Also, no disrespect to Unforgiven and Leone, both of which are awesome, but in speaking of great westerns, no one mentions Ford or Hawks? At best Unforgiven is the greatest revisionist western (a category Leone also falls under, to a degree), but there couldn’t have been revisionist westerns without the westerns that set the standards of the genre.
I’m not sure what I would’ve done with either of those Being John Malkovich pair-ups, though. Those were TOUGH.
Your podcasts keep reminding me of so many classics I haven’t seen, also best guest star so far.
