Confirmed: J.J. Abrams Will Direct ‘Star Trek’ Sequel
The sequel to J.J. Abrams‘ 2009 hit Star Trek has been eagerly anticipated by fans, while many delays have been endured. Recently, Paramount gave the sequel’s June 29, 2012 release date to G.I. Joe: Retaliation. But now, the script by Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Damon Lindelof is nearing completion, and one of the biggest questions on fans’ minds has been answered: After promising to focus on Trek after completing this summer’s Super 8, J.J. Abrams has finally committed to directing the sequel.
With pre-production starting, the script should be finished by the end of the month, and shooting commencing this winter. Now, only a few questions remain: What will be Star Trek 2‘s new release date? Will J.J. succumb to studio pressure to shoot in 3D? And, more importantly, will there be lens flares?
Abrams’ Super 8 hits Blu-ray and DVD November 22.
