Back to the Future IV – It’s Official!
Universal officially announced today via Twitter that Back to the Future IV is a go! The flick will start shooting in Los Angeles late 2015 with a planned release for Summer 2016.
Original series co-creator Bob Gale has already written the screenplay, the story will focus on Doc Brown’s sons Jules and Verne and take place after the events of the original trilogy. The plan according to Gale is to expand the original universe and bring a new story to fans with hopes for a new trilogy.
The director of the original trilogy Robert Zemeckis will be overseeing production in a producer role while Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn has stepped in to fill the director’s chair. Christopher Lloyd and Mary Steenburgen have both signed on to reprise their original roles but there is no word at this time if Michael J. Fox will be involved. Negotiations are ongoing for who will play Jules and Verne Brown, but it is expected that the announcement of Chris Pine as Jules and Ryan Gosling as Verne will be coming shortly.
