I want to say right off that Britt Ekland‘s dance scene from The Wicker Man (the original!) is my favorite of all time. Even though, from what I’ve read, a Scottish woman acted as a body double for all the shots of her lower half (no point in letting facts ruin one’s fantasies, though). I think the Flickchart blog caps off at PG-13, so I can’t actually show you a clip from the film. You should watch the whole movie if you haven’t seen it, anyway, since it’s one of those classics that all upstanding movie aficionados should have under their belt. Read the rest of this entry »
The Actor Spotlight: Nicolas Cage

I find it disconcerting how hated Nicolas Cage is. It’s not an uncommon occurrence to hear people say that they avoid Nicolas Cage movies because he is in it. Are there any other Oscar winners that that have that same problem? Make no mistake, I’m not saying he hasn’t been in bad films, but there is no actor who has been in over 50 films who can say they haven’t made a few mistakes. Yet these same people who damn him will forgive Al Pacino for doing Two For the Money, and are completely willing to ignore The Tourist from both Johnny Depp and Angelia Jolie‘s resumes. So why do people only take Ghost Rider, The Wicker Man, and Season of the Witch into consideration whether they should go see the newest Cage film? I have no illusions that this blog will make these Cage haters think he’s a master of the craft, but hopefully it will keep them from writing a movie off just because he is in it. It’s right around the time that John Lithgow and Jesse Ventura equip themselves with phone book armor and huge metal rods to have a death-stick prison-fight to determine who the true “Aryan Warrior” is that I realized, sweet lord this movie is bringing the ruckus. It wasn’t the first scene of awesome and it definitely wasn’t the last but it perfectly encapsulates what makes this crazy little movie one of the most memorable action movies around.
