kingofpain – “Both movies involve an hero dragging around a chick while killing lots of villains. However, the chick in American Ninja was severely annoying and I’m not a big fan of Michael Dudikoff as an action star. Tom Cruise is a madman in real life, but at least he’s kind of likable as an actor. And even Cameron Diaz is preferable to the girl in American Ninja. I guess that part toward the end when the evil ninja shot a laser at Dudikoff was kind of awesome, and… well, the whole final battle in American Ninja was pretty cool. But Knight and Day was a more tolerable experience overall. Not a whole lot more tolerable, but there were some decent action scenes and attempts at humor.”

Criterion Commentaries – “The Hit”
24, May 2011by Michael O'Mealy
What if there was a Tarantinoesque film made before Quentin Tarantino burst on the scene with Reservoir Dogs? Specifically: a film where the killers are amusing, ostentatiously violent, and converse about existential concerns; a cast that features a character actor at the top of his game, another actor making a comeback, and Tim Roth. Stephen Frears directed that film, 1984’s The Hit.
