Tom Hiddleston is in early talks to headline a remake of The Crow for Relativity Media. The Avengers villain would play Eric Draven, a man who returns from the grave to avenge his own death, who was portrayed by Brandon Lee in the original film. Lee was famously killed when he was accidentally shot on the set of The Crow. The remake is being directed by F. Javier Gutiérrez (Before the Fall). [The Wrap]

I’ve been a fan of the Alien film series since my first encounter of catching glimpses of Jim Cameron‘s sequel. Between finger-shielded eyes, transfixed from across the room, I was likely much too young to be watching these scary, vicious creatures on VHS. In the years to come, I’d find their genesis in Ridley Scott‘s original, Alien, and then eagerly anticipating the opening nights of Alien³ and Alien Resurrection. Even the Alien vs. Predator comic-fan mash-up detours have claimed their running times from my life. To this day, I’m a dedicated fan. I’m writing this review wearing a Weyland-Yutani t-shirt. I’ve poured through hours of commentaries and behind the scenes features; from the Special Edition Laserdisc, to the DVD Quadrilogy, and the latest Blu-ray Anthology.

The common thread through it all has been the horrific H.R. Giger creature design and its environments – from my impressionable young age to adulthood – striking me as beautiful and intricate as they are the origins of nightmares. As dedicated as ever, Scott’s love of visual storytelling in cinema bring these ghastly, yet gorgeous visions to our sight once again in Prometheus - but probably not in the way you’d expect.

The proposed reboot of the 1994 Alex Proyas film, The Crow, is a project with a perpetual revolving door, it seems. It was only a couple of months ago that Bradley Cooper stepped away from starring in the movie. Now, the film has also lost its director. Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Weeks Later) has backed out of the project, rumored to be taking on a reboot of Highlander.

Fresnadillo had replaced original director Stephen Norrington, who had been working from a script by Nick Cave on The Crow. When Cave was removed from the project, Norrington followed, and Fresnadillo was working from a script by Watchmen co-writer Alex Tse. Fresnadillo and Tse had lined up Cooper to star, but Cooper dropped out due to scheduling conflicts.

Interestingly, Cooper stepped away from The Crow to work with Alex Proyas on Paradise Lost.

Now, the hunt is on again for a new director, with F. Javier Guitierrez (Before the Fall) mentioned as a possibility.

Proyas’ The Crow is a cult classic that saw the tragic death of its star, Brandon Lee, in an accidental shooting on set. It spawned two sub-par sequels and a 1998 TV series. Whether a proposed reboot actually happens apparently remains to be seen.
