"Persona is my favorite Bergman film. It's got that experimental edge that I think fits his deep philosophical angst perfectly this time around, and it hits me just as powerfully every time I see it. Spellbound is a solid Hitchcock film, but a second-tier one at best - the best sequence is the Dali dream sequence, and even then it's explain in such a one-to-one correlative way (as is typical of '40s psychotherapy) that it takes the edge off. Persona wins for keeping the edge on in spades."
