I think the cats behind that one thought the casting of Coolio would actually make their production look slick. Nope. The car chase is sick and some of the fisticuffs entertain, but overall, it really IS retarded. City of Lost Souls is all over the place, but I'm not angry at myself for watching it like I was with China Strike Force, so there's that (guess which one I'm going to choose?). My main problem with it is a problem I have with a lot of Japanese cinema - it's too slow. Too much posing, too much awkward (for this American, anyway) silence. Too much dead air, really. But there are moments of insanity and moments of cool that put it on the "worthwhile" side of things. The cockfight was...something else and Teah's outburst with the shotgun at the end was actually pretty fucking sweet, if I'm being honest. Not Miike's finest hour, at all, but I'm going with Brazilian with a Shotgun."
