Horror Enthusiast. I'm not limited, just specialized.

A lot of people on this site make me feel like a moving-watching lightweight with my mere 800+ films, sheesh! But I can only rank things I remember enough about to compare to other things. A lot of the top movies will require a second viewing from me to do so. I'll get to them eventually!

Hey, check out The Grapes of Death and Sexy Killer if you haven't seen them. They're both offbeat zombie flicks.

Thanks, will do! Hard to beat a title like The Grapes of Death, and the poster is giving me a nice Let's Scare Jessica vibe.

I've been meaning to rewatch Let's Scare Jessica to Death. I guess Grapes of Death is kind of moody like that, and kind of on the arty side. You might want to also check out Lemora: A Child's Tale of the Supernatural. I'm rewatching it right now. It's another atmospheric type of film.

Aww, thanks! I really love them. Everyone should check out SPIDER BABY, it's charming and easy to love. On the other hand, as a warning, no one but me likes Dance of the Dead. Also, nothing wrong with having similar taste - just means you know what you like. When left to my own devices I actually watch horror movies almost exclusively (hopefully that doesn't make you think less of me. :P).

Yes, honestly. Yes it is. But it's so well-made, thought-provoking, and actually interesting both visually and narratively that I really came to like it nonetheless. Not for the squeamish or sensitive, but a much more worthy investment of time than many other "most depraved film of all time" contenders like Cannibal Holocaust (as far as I've seen).

Aww, you're super sweet. :) As far as Excision goes, while I was impressed with AnnaLyne McCord and Traci Lords' acting, and I LOVED the gorgeous bloody dream sequences, I felt the story dragged a bit and the ending was just bewildering and sad.

I saw the original Wolf Creek in theatres, but it's been so long I don't know how I feel about it or the potential for a sequel. Time for a re-watch!

Is Maniac a remake of something? You're not the first person I've heard excited for it, so maybe I should be getting with the program on this one. :)

That sucks that you didn't get a wide release of Evil Dead! D: I...really didn't like it. It looks really good, but that's kind of the only thing it had going for it, in my eyes. A lot of people seem to like it a lot more than I do, though, so hopefully you'll enjoy it when it finally gets down there!

I like Wolf Creek because of how crazy Mick is, the beautiful looking sniper scenes and the fact that it's loosely based on real killings. Backpackers don't like this movie. :D

Do you know if the first Maniac was first person? I haven't seen it, but I liked the look of the new one. I think Elijah Wood pulls off being disturbing.

Aargh, sorry you didn't like Evil Dead. I hope I do. :) I avoided all the trailers, so it'll be annoying for me after all that if I didn't.

I think I'm gonna have to dig a little deeper to see what other horror movies come out this year. :)

Oh yeah, if you're Australian, I can definitely see having extra love for Wolf Creek. :) (I'm from Texas, so I feel something special for TCM. ;). )

Nope, I haven't seen the first Maniac, I only vaguely thought I'd heard of there even being one. I'm sure I'll see the new one (and probably the old one too) eventually.

Haha, yeah, I'm sorry too. Don't want to dampen your enthusiasm, though! If it makes you feel any better, I was inspired to go re-watch Evil Dead 1 (which I already really liked) and Evil Dead 2, which I gained a new appreciation for! (I wasn't really a fan before, but now I like it.) So, there's that.

I haven't seen Vampire's Kiss (or even heard of it), but it looks silly and fun. I actually really like Nicolas Cage, ha.

I loved World War Z! I'm glad you liked it too, since I know you were more skeptical than I was. :) I thought it was super tense, and I felt those were some of the most threatening zombies I've ever seen. (The way they'd just brute-force barriers with their bodies and numbers!)

Ooh, I'm excited for you! I hope you like Spider Baby. It's awesome that it's being shown on to TV, too.

That woman zombie towards the end in the cell was terrifying! Movies rarely get me tense. I had my jaw clenched for when he's going for medical supplies. That never happens!

I now see why they re-shot so much of the movie after hearing what the other version was.have you heard what the story was before? Did you notice Matthew Fox? His whole part was nearly cut out of the movie because they didn't like the story.

I have Spider Baby recorded right now! :) But i'm not sure when I'll get to it. I work long hours, so it may be on next weekend, we'll see. You'll be the first to hear my verdict, Keelee. :)

Looking forward to hearing those thoughts! :)

And I actually don't know a lot about the production of World War Z, beyond the fact that by the time it was finished it was practically an in-name-only adaptation of the book, haha. Which I haven't read, but I certainly plan to.

I have a policy of watching the movie before I read the book whenever possible, because it's easy for a book to outshine a movie (you can get deeper into the story, it's the version the author intended), but very difficult for a movie to live up to a book you're already familiar with. This way they both have a fighting chance. :)

I'm definitely interested in knowing all the changes the film went through though! Oh, I do suddenly recall reading that the original ending was much more ambiguous (he didn't find his family, or anything), and if so, I'm quite glad they changed that to the current version. For being such a huge horror fan I'm surprisingly not down with the downer endings. XD

I look forward to giving those thoughts. :)

I can tell you a few things about how World War Z ended if you like, but maybe I shouldn't in case it spoils the book. It's up to you. :)

I totally agree with you about watching the movie first. I read Gone Baby Gone before seeing the movie. Let's just say that although I love the movie, it was hard to overcome how more simplistic is seemed compared to the book. Of course the movie has to edit out parts, but i still felt like it was lacking.

It is surprising you don't like downer endings! :D That's cool, you just want to feel happy at end of a movie. :)

Ooh, thanks for the info offer, but I will hold off on book-specific information, as I would like to read it myself.

It's great to meet someone else who understands! Yes, that's exactly what happens. At least you still managed to like the movie in the end. I had my belief verified by The Golden Compass - if I'd read the book beforehand, and knew how wildly divergent the movie is, I would have been upset (the book is magnificent). But since I had no idea, I was able to enjoy the movie on its own merits, and I love it, too.

Haha, I really do! I hate being made to feel sad just for the sake of feeling sad. A good ending can really justify a protagonist's struggles throughout the film.

Not that I can't enjoy a good "villain wins" scenario, like Saw, especially when said villain is so engaging and charismatic, or an ending that seems sad at first glance, but is really darkly beautiful and happy, like The Orphanage. :)

Ahahaha, you caught me, I'm in one of my (not infrequent) moods where I just want to watch ALL the movies! I seem to have watched something like 18+ films over the last two weeks, in addition to Pacific Rim (did you see this, by the way? If so, what did you think? I really enjoyed it!), haha. I have the summer off from my graduate courses, which partially explains how I have enough time for such things.

Filled in some gaps in my Romero, Argento, Bava, Stephen King, and animation/live-action mash-ups (as my Netflix queue will attest, it seems the only things I will pay any attention to outside of the broader horror genre are fanciful children's movies) knowledge, plus other random things.

Haha, the thing on my shoulder is my beloved plush Cthulhu! He's wearing my bat-winged headband for fun. I'm a huge Lovecraft fangirl. :)

I'm surprised I don't like The Devil's Backbone more either! I love ghost/supernatural/haunted house tales, and I really dig GDT's work most of the time, so what's the problem?! I don't know. I actually want to re-watch it because of this confusion, I just have to get my hands on it again (originally rented).

I love the combo of horror movies and kids movies on your list. :) It's an interesting combo you like, nice work. :)

Oh, okay! :D You must really want Del Toro to get approval for At the Mountain of Madness then. :) It is actually linked to Pacific Rim. If Pacrim did well, they were going to let him make AtMoM. Unfortunately, losing to Grown Ups 2 wasn't great for Del Toro.

I hope you like it more on re-watch, Keelee. :)

Well, thank you! You have good taste too! Of the movies I've seen of course. But I'll also add that you have a unique taste that makes your list interesting. Take that as a compliment, I wouldn't mean it any other way. :)

I'll admit, i'm not very good at emoticons! :D I had to look up what ;3 is! It said it was either a cat, a smiley face, or something else I won't mention just in case it bothers you. :) I'll guess it was a smiley face, but I would like it also if it was a random cat reference. :D

Oh, haha! Totally understandable, it is sort of an arcane emoticon. I think of it as a "smiling cat" face, yes. With just the colon in front is normal :3, with the semi-colon in front it's kind of winking ;3. I guess it's kind of silly, but I love cats, and it's a change from the standard (but still good!) regular smiley faces.

And aww, thank you! I definitely would have taken it as a compliment either way. :) I try to base my list almost exclusively on how much I love or enjoyed a film, because I feel like that's the most personally honest way to do it. A classic like "12 Angry Men" may be a great film, but if I enjoyed "Plan 9 From Outer Space" more, that's what's going to win the match-up for me.

Then again, it's totally possible (likely?) I do just have slightly eccentric taste, as everyone's lists are still unique to them, and I'm not saying there's anything wrong with however they might be building it.

Oh, excellent. I am SO looking forward to seeing The Conjuring! I'm also going to a showing of Metropolis, one of my all-time favorite films, later this month. I want to see Monster University as well, but there's only so much money in my bank account for movie tickets, and I try to save that for seeing horror films. XD (I see you did see this, how was it?)

Yeah, at first I was leery (Lovecraft is notoriously and inherently difficult to bring to the screen), but after seeing both Hellboys and now Pacific Rim I think he could do it! I would love to see it funded. AtMoM is my favorite Lovecraft story, coincidentally. :)

And thanks! I hope so too. I seem to remember the finale being particularly dour and kind of off-putting, with the soldiers? We'll see (eventually - like yours, my to-watch list is endless, and re-watches aren't exactly given preference over new material very often).

Well, I saw The Conjuring Keelee. :) I thought it was fantastic! They didn't go for cheap scares, and the child actors weren't annoying, they were actually good! I didn't jump at any of it, but I loved what Wan was doing. Ha! All the women in the crowd were very scared! :D the woman next to me had her hand over her eyes for most of the movie. :D Someone brought a salt shaker into the cinema! Every time there was a suspenseful scene, he'd shake it like a rattlesnake! It actually added to the movie at stages, but most of the time it was annoying. Also, someone was sitting at the front filming it! I don't get why you bother.

Oh, I'm happy you liked it! I thought it was excellent, too. Maybe not as creative as Insidious, but really well made and scary. And that climax, so intense! I was practically biting my nails. Both families felt totally real, and were nice people you could actually care for, which is always refreshing and helpful in a horror movie.

Those people though! Jurks trying to mess up your experience. :| Hmph. I saw it at the Alamo Drafthouse, where they take movies (and themselves) very seriously, so both of those people would have been ejected from the theatre, for sure. The salt-shaker (I mean really, what the heck?) for making noise, and the filming guy for obvious reasons. I don't know why he would bother either, ugh.

One thing, though - the title. Is it just me, or was there literally nothing involving "conjuring" in the entire film? I'm guessing the producers just wanted a title that harkens thematically back to some of the greatest cinematic ghost stories of all time (The Haunting, The Changeling, etc), but still.

I'll concede that it can just be hard to come up with a good title, haha.

The Drafthouse(s) are pretty cool. It's definitely nice not to run into the kind of insanity you did at The Conjuring, and I love love all the special film programming and events they do. I'm not a big fan of eat-in theatres though (which they all are), as the food is always weak and outrageously expensive, while by necessity sacrificing really comfy seating to accommodate table surfaces and room for waiters to move about.

Embarrassingly, I already can't remember anything about the score! Ha. Clearly I need to watch it again.

The bird thing mainly made me think of how practically the exact same thing happened in Dark Skies earlier this year, haha. I could have done without the loss of the dog though, for sure. :< (I know Wan and Whannel have seen Poltergeist, the dog makes out fine in that!)

I haven't seen Birdemic, but I totally want to! I believe it's on Netflix now. :)

And I finally watched Kill List! That...that was something else. I honestly could not predict where that movie was going to go next. Interestingly, (in addition to the obvious Wicker Man parallels) I was actually reminded quite strongly of A Serbian Film! They're both about a guy with a wife and young son in financial need taking on a big, obviously foreboding job in their profession they've been trying not to go back to, and everything going horribly, astonishingly wrong from there.

The dog is usually the first to go in horror movies.

Birdemic is ridiculous! But it is funny. :D Especially considering the director thinks it's a masterpiece.

I'm happy you got a Spider Baby poster! You going to hang it somewhere? :)

I assume Kill List isn't similar to A Serbian Film when it come to gore?

I wonder if you'd like his horror comedy Sightseers more than Kill List. :)

Aww! Cuuute.

And hmm, I'll add Sightseers to my watch list! Gonna be a while before I've recovered from Kill List, though. :P (I'll say one thing - it was certainly unpredictable!) Yeah, it wasn't as gory as ASF for sure (or quite so disturbing), but the films have very similar premises.

My Spider Baby poster hangs proudly above my bed! :D

Do you know that cupcakes are called buns or baps in Ireland? That's what my friend Sarah calls them! :D So if you were speaking to an Irish person, you'd be Keelee Von Bun. :D

Cool, just shows how much you like it to hang it over your bed. Do you have any other posters of your favourite movies?

I gotta say Keelee, and take this as a compliment, I cannot put my finger on what you would enjoy! :) Eyes Without a Face and Peeping Tom seem like movies you would enjoy, yet they're way down your list! You're unpredictable, that's cool! But frustrating for me to understand. ;D

I hated Taken 2! Too much Maggie Grace! Who asked for more of the daughter! Running around throwing grenades is such a stupid idea! Plus she threw a grenade under someone's car rather than throw it on the other side of the building! What a cow. :D

Gah, not at all! I'm super sorry for making you think that! :< I'm just terrible at communication! (Sometimes I'm just not using the site for a while, and other times I just have a lot of nonsensical anxiety about communicating.) It's not you at all, I really like talking to you.

Well you've been on the site five or six times since I left the messages, but the anxiety I will accept. Look, I'm a nice guy. I try and go through life without being mean to anyone. I'm six foot six and strong (only telling you this to make a point, I'm not vain), but have never been in a fight. Yet, I'm quiet, and it takes a lot for me to say something to someone. So when I get ignored, it's like a slap in my face for the effort. Pretty much transferring your anxiety to me and made me feel like I did something wrong. I would of loved to of talked about Spider Baby with you seeing you're such a fan. But I guess you'd rather be left alone.

I don't understand Keelee, you were doing so well talking to me as well. You didn't give an answer to whether you'd like to be left alone, so I will just assume so unless you say different.
